No Soup for You!

Thursday, November 12th, 2009 | Author: Barb

I love soup. It’s like a big warm hug on a cold day. I love that Seinfeld episode where the store won’t sell you soup unless you behave – Elaine just couldn’t get it… “No soup for you!”

We had a chilly weekend, it was later in the day (good soup needs a day!) and we were so wanting soup. Well, I pulled out my Watkins Baked Potato Soup Mix. Hmmm – this could be good! I had leftover browned potatoes and carrots from a roast, I added them, used fat free milk and it was a definite OMG moment! Quick, economical and good for you! Not to mention I got to use up veggies.

Stock up on it today, while you’re at it – get the Onion Soup too. You’ll think you’re in a French Bistro!

Click on the “Buy Watkins” link to the right. Associate 383996 – off for more soup!

Hi, my name is Barb and I’m a food addict…

Saturday, August 29th, 2009 | Author: Barb

Hi Barb! Yeah, I’m going to have to admit it. I LOVE food. Live to eat vs eat to live. I spend about 75% of my waking hours thinking about what I’m going to eat, when I’m going to eat – it’s crazy! Luckily – I’m a healthy eater. I can make the most wonderful, clean, nutritious meals – it’s no wonder I love food. I’m an excellent cook! Last night we had company and my husband went to town, wings, poppers, fries, weenies wrapped in bacon – what?!? Where’s the salad? Where are my healthy green vegetables? I told our company that my husband was very happy they came as he doesn’t get the chance to eat like that… So, I waited until everyone was done and snuck into the kitchen to make something I wanted to eat. I made a delicious, creamy polenta and to season it I added Watkin’s Organic Chicken Seasoning, so good! I went out to the garden, picked a zucchini and a green pepper – sliced them up and sauteed them in olive oil with a little Watkin’s Garlic Liquid Spice then when they were properly carmelized served them in a bowl over the polenta.  I know I’ve mentioned that I’m losing weight – 40 lbs so far, and it’s amazing to me that I can eat so much and still lose weight. You have to make a committment to yourself to get healthy. Be a food addict like me! Take a minute to go to the “buy Watkins” link on the right, don’t forget – Independent Associate #383996!

Money in the Bank

Saturday, August 15th, 2009 | Author: Barb

I don’t know about you but, because I can, I log in to my bank account daily. I’m afraid I’m not a traditional “balancer.” I look, think about what’s coming out – then determine what’s left and go from there. Every now and then I think about making spreadsheets, being more proactive vs. reactive – but, then I don’t. Oh well.

Today, a surprise! Watkins put money in my account! I didn’t even remember that it was coming! Through the month, my mother had a Living Naturally Party and her friends went wild over it! Mom even had others call her after the party was over to add orders. That kind of excitement was enough for me. I had totally forgotten that I was making money too!

Having people be interested in the products, the memories they invoke and the excitement generated from the new items is contagious. Word spread through Mom’s neighborhood and she’s having another party this month. She even has some of her friends just logging on to the website and making their own purchases!

I guess I’ll have another surprise next month! If you’re interested in having your own surprise, click on the “sell Watkins” link – go ahead, have the life you deserve…

Jillian Michaels Rocks!!!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 | Author: Barb

Okay – who hasn’t heard of “The Biggest Loser?” Hands? Anyone? I LOVE this show – mainly because of Jillian – Super Trainer – Michaels. Every year her people win. She knows what she’s talking about!!! I subscribe to her newsletter – I need daily motivation to keep me on track. Here’s an excerpt from today’s news:

Are Pesticides Lurking in Your Food?
All right, kids, it’s time for your wake-up call of the week. You know all those pesticides that we spray on our lawns to make them look like suburban Edens, and on our crops to keep the bugs away? Where do you think they ultimately end up? Let’s see: They accumulate in the soil, leach into groundwater, linger on the grass our kids run on in their bare feet, and hang out on the foods we eat. In other words, they end up in our bodies.

Considering that those chemicals were invented to, you know, kill things, what kind of effect do you think they’re having on us? This is territory that researchers have only recently begun to explore. And they’re turning up some disturbing connections: A recent large-scale National Institutes of Health epidemiological study found a dramatically increased risk of diabetes among farmers who routinely applied one of seven common pesticides to their crops. Research that has examined a broader group of chemicals called persistent organic pollutants (POPs) — including many pesticides, as well as the by-products of pesticide manufacture — has linked them to insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. (Another cause for alarm: The word “persistent” refers to the fact that these chemicals stick around in the environment and in the food chain long after their use. Although many POPs have been banned in most parts of the world, they still turn up in people’s bodies y ears later.)

It’ll take more research to tease out the all the effects of pesticides on human health, but one thing seems clear: They are not good for our metabolisms. We’ve endured a toxic onslaught for years without knowing what it’s doing to our bodies. It’s getting clearer by the day that we must start paying very close attention to where our food comes from. I am not being alarmist when I say that what we eat could have lifelong ramifications for our health, hormones, and metabolism. Buy organic to avoid pesticides in your foods, and keep those nasty chemicals off your lawn!

That’s what I’m talking about – get healthy!!! Buy Organic!!! Watkin’s has so many natural spices and products to enhance your life. Whether you want to cook with them or clean with them – you have to do it. Jillian says so…

Living Naturally

I constantly worry about eating right. Our bodies are complex machines that run on fuel. Like any machine, the purer the fuel – the better the performance. Buying organic, might be more expensive out of the pocket – but, boy does it make life easier in the long run. Have you heard the expression “clean eating?” Fresh flavors, starting with whole products – nothing from a package. It’s what I strive for. Did you know if you shop the perimeter of your grocery store – you’ll automatically make better choices?!? I’m also a big supporter of Watkins Products – in fact, I’m a Watkins Consultant! Talk about a work-from-home job that I can truly support!

You can view all of the Watkins products – including the environmentally friendly cleaning and home care products @ www.watkinsonline.com – don’t forget – I’m associate #383996 – I’d love to hear from you – feel free to contact me!

The Power of Pure

Sunday, May 17th, 2009 | Author: Barb

My husband, Bob, had cancer, or has cancer – I’m not sure how it’s stated now. He had/has Stage IIIB lung cancer, but his entire left lung (along with the tumor) has been removed. Every six months we go back to the Surgical Oncologist, go through the entire ritual of tests and hold our breath – so far, so good.

Anyway, the radiation, the chemotherapy and the multitude of pharmaceuticals that have run through him has changed his body chemistry. I mean think about it. All that stuff – while it may cure you, changes you. He gets this “red mask” anytime he washes his face. Plain old soap, over the counter cremes, lotions, aloe preparations, aqua pure – all of it – red mask. His eyebrows flake!

In our new quest for health we’ve turned to Watkins. You may have heard of their products – the vanilla, the cinnamon, the black pepper – they’ve been around since 1868. Well, they have a line of skin care products – all with natural botanicals. We have the lemon cream. It smells so good – if it were food – I’d eat it! My husband has started using this on his face (it also has shea butter) and it’s magically disappeared! Not to mention that he smells so good, the dog can’t stop licking his face!

We were so impressed, we started selling their products. If you’re interested, please click on the links provided and explore the products. There is something for everyone, from cooking to cleaning, from laundry to skin care, from supplements to spices – natural is better. We’re associate 383996 – so, please use us for your purchases!

Also, feel free to comment – I love the dialog!
