CHOOSE HEALTH! That’s it. It’s a new year what better resolution can you make but to “choose health?” Whether it’s the food you eat, the supplements you take, the cleaning products you purchase — choose health!

I’ve lost 41 pounds – that’s right 41 LBS! You can do it – choose health. When you look at your food choices – pick the healthy ones – go organic. Stop putting toxins and chemicals into your finely tuned machine. Use supplements that will enhance your choices, homeopathic remedies that keep you safe – not alter your body chemistry.

When you clean your house – use organic, green, earth-friendly, love yourself products! No carcinogens, artificially colorings, POISIN!!! Choose HEALTH!

G-20

Saturday, September 19th, 2009 | Author: Barb

I don’t really know too much about the G20, however you look at it though, I live north of Pittsburgh where the G-20 will be next week. I know there are many good things and many bad things that come from this event. I only recently learned that 14 cities turned down the opportunity to host – but Pittsburgh jumped at it.

One of the events this year will be a dinner for the 20 world leaders and their spouses at Phipps Conservatory. Phipps Conservatory is one of the most green botanical gardens in the world. Their display of over 19 indoor and outdoor gardens and ecological environments is second to none. They take living naturally, and eco-friendly to a new level.

I had the privelege of volunteering there this past Friday, to wipe down railings, brick walls, signs, benches and light fixtures. You can’t imagine  the beauty in that place. I urge you to click the link on the right and at least visit their website.

I am so inspired by their pledge to sustainability and green living. Every product we used to clean with was green, and environmentally friendly. every utensil in the cafe, all the plates, glasses – compostable.

I can make a difference with Watkins, you can make a difference. Make the pledge for sustainability and buy products that will save our environment. It doesn’t matter what else the world leaders will talk about at the G20 – as long as well all buy into a greener way of life!

Be Your Own Boss!

Monday, August 03rd, 2009 | Author: Barb

If you were your own Boss, would you expect a lot from your employees? I mean, think about it. If you controlled your own destiny, would you (the Boss) sit back and say – take the day off, you deserve it! Well, of course you do deserve it, but people who run their own companies expect a lot from their employees and they should! When you run your own company – you have to be just as tough on yourself – you have to expect results! I’m not the best boss of me. I need to work harder. I have to find the right words to inspire you to want to achieve your dreams! Watkins can make that happen for you! Trust me! I’m a boss! Okay, not the best reason – but think about this – Watkins has been around since 1868, providing quality spices, flavorings, oils, home remedies – you name it! They have an excellent product, who wouldn’t want to sell that? The best thing about it is – you don’t really have to sell it – you buy it, you inspire others to buy it, you use it, you want others to use it – people love this stuff! A lot of times, just the name evokes memories of a long gone era – gives you the feeling of security. Makes you want to cook! And clean! Okay, maybe not clean – but it makes you realize that providing the safest home for your family is important. It’s also really great to realize that while you’re providing eco-friendly products, promoting health, supporting overall well-being – you’re earning money! It’s a win-win-win-win situation. You can be Healthy, Wealthy and Green.

Christmas in July

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 | Author: Barb

One of my most favorite things is waiting for my Watkins order to come. I tear into it. Somehow the pleasure of  just getting a package in the mail is a real thrill. I truly love opening that box and physically seeing each new thing. I’m making a point of ordering new and different things every month just to learn and explore. I’ve never been disappointed! I keep reordering the BBQ sauce! I’m a BBQ lover and that sauce is fan-tastic! Every spice is so pure, so fresh, so natural. You know – I am a big believer in healthy cooking and to take those seasonings and sprinkle them on fresh vegetables and steam them – yum!

Every month new items are featured at discounted prices and in this economy, any discount is welcome. I try to get as many as I can, just so I can pass on my findings to you. I love to talk Watkins too! This summer as we have people over to enjoy the pool and great conversations, I can’t wait to let everyone know about the dips they’re eating, the lemon mousse they’re raving about, the lemony cream that keeps my skin so moist. It’s a joy!

I hope you feel my enthusiasm and realize that the Watkins way of life is not only a way to enjoy healthy, natural products, but it’s a way to share secrets to the good life with your friends. Of course having the extra dollars in my pocket from sales is a bonus!

Merry Christmas! Barb Haas – Independent Watkins Associate #383996!

Jillian Michaels Rocks!!!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 | Author: Barb

Okay – who hasn’t heard of “The Biggest Loser?” Hands? Anyone? I LOVE this show – mainly because of Jillian – Super Trainer – Michaels. Every year her people win. She knows what she’s talking about!!! I subscribe to her newsletter – I need daily motivation to keep me on track. Here’s an excerpt from today’s news:

Are Pesticides Lurking in Your Food?
All right, kids, it’s time for your wake-up call of the week. You know all those pesticides that we spray on our lawns to make them look like suburban Edens, and on our crops to keep the bugs away? Where do you think they ultimately end up? Let’s see: They accumulate in the soil, leach into groundwater, linger on the grass our kids run on in their bare feet, and hang out on the foods we eat. In other words, they end up in our bodies.

Considering that those chemicals were invented to, you know, kill things, what kind of effect do you think they’re having on us? This is territory that researchers have only recently begun to explore. And they’re turning up some disturbing connections: A recent large-scale National Institutes of Health epidemiological study found a dramatically increased risk of diabetes among farmers who routinely applied one of seven common pesticides to their crops. Research that has examined a broader group of chemicals called persistent organic pollutants (POPs) — including many pesticides, as well as the by-products of pesticide manufacture — has linked them to insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. (Another cause for alarm: The word “persistent” refers to the fact that these chemicals stick around in the environment and in the food chain long after their use. Although many POPs have been banned in most parts of the world, they still turn up in people’s bodies y ears later.)

It’ll take more research to tease out the all the effects of pesticides on human health, but one thing seems clear: They are not good for our metabolisms. We’ve endured a toxic onslaught for years without knowing what it’s doing to our bodies. It’s getting clearer by the day that we must start paying very close attention to where our food comes from. I am not being alarmist when I say that what we eat could have lifelong ramifications for our health, hormones, and metabolism. Buy organic to avoid pesticides in your foods, and keep those nasty chemicals off your lawn!

That’s what I’m talking about – get healthy!!! Buy Organic!!! Watkin’s has so many natural spices and products to enhance your life. Whether you want to cook with them or clean with them – you have to do it. Jillian says so…

All Purpose – What does that mean?

Monday, May 25th, 2009 | Author: Barb

First of all, who wouldn’t want to be categorized as “all-purpose” – you would be all things to all people. Well, since I’m a Mom – I think I’m “all-purpose”.

Watkins has an All Purpose cleaner – part of their Living Naturally line, it’s made with: Purified Water; Coconut-based surfactant; Natural Lavendar; and Rosemary Oil.  That’s it! Not tested on animals, no harsh chemicals – and it smells so good. I’ve been known to clean a lot more frequently now that I have this. It’s true…

In comparison, I pulled up a data sheet on Formula 409 (what I used to use) and here is the second ingredient: ETHYLENE OXIDE (SUSPECTED 2A HUMAN CARCINOGEN BY IARC; CONFIRMED ANIMAL CARINOGEN BY IARC & NTP) — What?!? Human Carcinogen? Animal Carcinogen? What would our dog Achilles think of this? Now I don’t know who IARC is, but if they suspect it’s bad – it probably is. The data sheet also explains that safety goggles and proper ventilation should be maintained during use. Now, I’ve been known to do a few weird things – but if my family came home and I had goggles on while cleaning, they might commit me…

Watkins All Purpose Cleaner comes in different scents: Aloe & Green Tea; Lemon; Orange Citrus; and Lavender! It’s very reasonably priced – and it also comes in a concentrate for easy refill!

I’m beginning to think that All Purpose should mean that you can use it for anything and never be worried about the health and safety of your family and your pets. Oh – and that it should smell good too! Well, I have to go clean – I want to use up the lavender so I can get the Aloe & Green Tea!!!

Happy Memorial Day!

Living Naturally

Sunday, May 17th, 2009 | Author: Barb

I constantly worry about eating right. Our bodies are complex machines that run on fuel. Like any machine, the purer the fuel – the better the performance. Buying organic, might be more expensive out of the pocket – but, boy does it make life easier in the long run. Have you heard the expression “clean eating?” Fresh flavors, starting with whole products – nothing from a package. It’s what I strive for. Did you know if you shop the perimeter of your grocery store – you’ll automatically make better choices?!? I’m also a big supporter of Watkins Products – in fact, I’m a Watkins Consultant! Talk about a work-from-home job that I can truly support!

You can view all of the Watkins products – including the environmentally friendly cleaning and home care products @ www.watkinsonline.com – don’t forget – I’m associate #383996 – I’d love to hear from you – feel free to contact me!

The Power of Pure

Sunday, May 17th, 2009 | Author: Barb

My husband, Bob, had cancer, or has cancer – I’m not sure how it’s stated now. He had/has Stage IIIB lung cancer, but his entire left lung (along with the tumor) has been removed. Every six months we go back to the Surgical Oncologist, go through the entire ritual of tests and hold our breath – so far, so good.

Anyway, the radiation, the chemotherapy and the multitude of pharmaceuticals that have run through him has changed his body chemistry. I mean think about it. All that stuff – while it may cure you, changes you. He gets this “red mask” anytime he washes his face. Plain old soap, over the counter cremes, lotions, aloe preparations, aqua pure – all of it – red mask. His eyebrows flake!

In our new quest for health we’ve turned to Watkins. You may have heard of their products – the vanilla, the cinnamon, the black pepper – they’ve been around since 1868. Well, they have a line of skin care products – all with natural botanicals. We have the lemon cream. It smells so good – if it were food – I’d eat it! My husband has started using this on his face (it also has shea butter) and it’s magically disappeared! Not to mention that he smells so good, the dog can’t stop licking his face!

We were so impressed, we started selling their products. If you’re interested, please click on the links provided and explore the products. There is something for everyone, from cooking to cleaning, from laundry to skin care, from supplements to spices – natural is better. We’re associate 383996 – so, please use us for your purchases!

Also, feel free to comment – I love the dialog!
